ETN Database

Data on terrestrial ecosystems on this site come from two sources: the NatureServe Ecological Systems Classification for Latin America, the Caribbean and the United States and ecosystem classifications and maps of national or subnational level provided by Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.

Data on freshwater ecosystems were provided by The Nature Conservancy, covering South and Central America. Data on marine and coastal ecosystems were provided for certain areas of several countries in Latin America.

All records are stored in a database which for data entry uses a form (ETN Standard Format) with a tiered structure that allows increasing level of detail in the characterization of an ecosystem.
